Let's not forget the BBC Expose on Money-Laundering & Fraud Scam involving Nigerian Criminal Politicians, Lawyers, and the British Government Aid Programme

A routine credit card scam investigation which started a number of years ago led the UK police to the biggest multi-continent money-laundering and fraud scam ring involving former Governor of Plateau state, Joshua Chibi Dariye who jumped bail, former Governor of Delta State James Ibori, and Aliyu Akwe Doma of Nassarawa State, and former Akwa Ibom State governor, Victor Attah.

Joshua Dariye was said to have been spraying the employees of a fancy hotel with £50 notes which triggered a stampede, and thousands of pounds stashed in his hotel which was discovered by the Metropolitan Police blowing open a larger scandal of extensive ramifications for the Nigerian and UK governments.

James Ibori has been revealed to be the most noteworthy culprit in the scam. With two theft convictions in UK, he headed to Nigeria in the early 90s and became Governor of the oil-rich state giving him a catch-all to funds intended to make the lives of his people, better. Upon discovery of his activivties, he was reported to have offered a $50m bribe to the Head of the EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, and found to have had accounts in Luxembourg, Mauritus, Germanny and Polynesia for laundering cash out of Nigeria

His wife, sister, mistress, and lawyer have been arrested and sentenced to imprisonment, and James Ibori has been sentenced to 13 years.

Another angle to the investigations include the involvement of Department for International Development in the activities of the shell companies incorporated to launder money. The involvement of a British department should certainly increase the heat under the pants of the suspects.

I am sure that Nigerians are very well aware of the corruption of their leaders, however, there is nothing like hard evidence to stir up the people and make them wiser in choosing their leaders.
