Last year the timepiece of choice for the hip hop set was Audemars Piguet (because rappers like Jay Z favor the brand). This year, the timepiece of choice seems to be the legendary Rolex. So much so that jewelers can’t keep the pricey watches in stock.
Rapper Rick Ross has always had a taste for finer things since the days when he punched a clock as a corrections officer in Florida. But a jeweler is suing Ross for absconding with about $90,000 worth of Rolexes that he didn’t pay for. Read on.
From Ms Starz:Johnny’s Custom Jewelry filed a lawsuit against Ross and Maybach Music Group, seeking payment of $89,847.50 plus interest, TMZ reported.Johnny’s claims that the Rolexes include one 18K gold watch with 30CT of diamonds ($55,000), one 18K gold watch with 7CT of diamonds ($14,000), and one two-tone watch with 5CT of diamonds ($14,000).Ross and his camp allegedly order the watches August 2012. The custom creations were completed and delivered. Johnny’s Custom Jewelry is known in the music industry as several artists go to for their one-of-kind pieces.
This problem could be solved if jewelers started treating celebrities like they treat us common folk and stop giving celebrities jewels on credit.
